Fantastical Fish by Renard

$24.00

One of our best sellers, this bag features a pattern of whimsical fish. The individual fish were created by Louis Renard in his book, Poissons, ecrevisses et crabes, published in 1754 (the work now in the copyright free domain).

His work depicted over 450 illustrations of fish, crustaceans, and a mermaid found in the East Indies. While he greatly used artistic license with the organism’s actual forms, many of the species can be identified. However, it is believed about 10% of the fish are completely fictional.

DETAILS:
Size: 10” x 7.5”
Outside material: Polyester textured canvas
Inside material: Indigo denim lining
Pull: Vegan leather

Images: 3 images of the bag, the last image of a page from Renard’s book, available on the Biodiversity Heritage Library.
