The Studio

Blue Beehive Studio was created by Melissa A. Moore in 2012. Melissa follows her imagination and produces various jewelry and art depending on her current interests, which can jump around from folklore, natural history images, and current scientific diagrams or images. Many of her natural history images are derived from long-forgotten works from the 1700s and 1800s that she “dusts off” and re-creates the images into enameled jewelry. Mainly working with copper and enamel, she also designs textiles, prints, and stationery.

Melissa has a background in science which has helped shape many of her pieces. She attended Loyola University Chicago for her undergraduate studies in biology, and went on to receive her M.S. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. She was in a doctoral program there studying fungi, but decided to leave academia and pursue adventures that lead her throughout Texas and Florida. She currently resides in Ohio with her family, a stray cat, a garden that always needs tending to, and too many houseplants to count (but can you ever have too many house plants?). She posts on Instagram as @bluebeehivestudio and on BlueSky as @bluebeehivestudio.bsky.social.
